Suchitra Barad, a 20-year-old woman from Beguniapda block in Ganjam district, Odisha, lived with the constant burden of strabismus, commonly known as squint. The misalignment of her right eye not only impacted her vision but also deeply affected her self-esteem and social interactions.

Living in a humble family that ran a small tea shop, Suchitra felt isolated and self-conscious. Her appearance often drew unwanted attention, making her feel different and out of place among her family, friends, and the community. Her family, too, grappled with the emotional and social impact of her condition, often feeling helpless and burdened. Concerns about her future, particularly marriage prospects, added to the family's anxieties.

Hope emerged when Suchitra's family learned about ECOS Eye Hospital through a community outreach program sponsored by CBM. A dedicated camp organizer, after counseling Suchitra's family, facilitated their visit to the hospital.

At ECOS Eye Hospital, a thorough evaluation revealed that Suchitra was a suitable candidate for squint surgery. The surgery, performed by a skilled ophthalmologist, involved realigning the muscles of her right eye to correct the misalignment. The entire procedure was conducted free of cost under the CBM International project.

Post-surgery, Suchitra experienced a remarkable transformation. The discomfort and self-consciousness that had plagued her for so long began to fade away. The successful surgery not only improved her vision but also restored her confidence and self-esteem.

Emboldened by her newfound sense of freedom, Suchitra is now planning to enroll in a tailoring training institute, eager to learn new skills and contribute to her family's livelihood. Her journey from isolation to independence serves as a powerful testament to the life-changing impact of quality eye care and the unwavering commitment of organizations like ECOS Eye Hospital.
