From March 9th to 15th, ECOS Eye Hospital observed World Glaucoma Week with a multifaceted campaign aimed at combating the "silent thief of sight." The week-long initiative, aligned with the World Glaucoma Association's (WGA) global efforts, sought to raise crucial awareness about glaucoma, emphasizing the importance of early detection and regular eye check-ups.

ECOS Eye Hospital, a charitable institution with a 34-year legacy of serving marginalized communities in Ganjam and neighboring districts, orchestrated a series of impactful activities. The hospital's commitment to reducing preventable blindness was evident in the comprehensive approach, which engaged patients, eye care providers, health officials, and the general public.

A major highlight of the week was an awareness rally conducted in the Berhampur area aimed to spread crucial information about glaucoma, a silent yet progressive eye disease that can lead to irreversible blindness if left undiagnosed. The initiative encouraged community members to prioritize regular eye check-ups as a preventive measure.

Additionally, another awareness rally was held at the hospital’s vision center in Jatni, Khordha, in association with the Rotary Club, Jatni. This collaborative effort sought to inform the local population about the dangers of undetected glaucoma and to highlight the importance of proactive eye care. The participants actively engaged with the public, distributing educational materials and urging them to undergo regular eye screenings.

Recognizing the critical role of early detection, ECOS Eye Hospital organized daily community screening camps in the Berhampur region. These camps provided invaluable services, screening individuals for various eye-related conditions, including cataract, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy. Furthermore, comprehensive health education sessions were conducted for all camp attendees, equipping them with essential knowledge about primary eye care and eye diseases. The primary objective was to encourage regular eye check-ups, enabling early diagnosis and timely intervention.

As an NABH accredited hospital, and the first private eye hospital in Odisha, ECOS Eye Hospital upholds the highest standards of patient safety and quality care. The hospital's dedication extends beyond its walls, with a robust community outreach program encompassing free eye screening camps, mobile van services, and school eye check-ups. These initiatives ensure that even those in remote and underserved areas have access to vital eye care services.

World Glaucoma Week serves as a crucial reminder of the insidious nature of glaucoma. Without early detection and treatment, this condition can lead to irreversible vision loss. ECOS Eye Hospital's proactive efforts during this week underscore its unwavering commitment to combating preventable blindness and ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to maintain healthy vision. By promoting awareness and facilitating access to quality eye care, ECOS Eye Hospital is making a tangible difference in the lives of countless individuals.
