On October 9, 2025, ECOS Eye Hospital joined the global observance of World Sight Day with a series of meaningful community-centered activities. The event aimed to highlight the importance of eye health and reinforce the hospital’s ongoing commitment to making quality eye care accessible to all.

The day commenced with an awareness rally through the streets of Berhampur Town at 9 AM. Staff members, students, and volunteers from ECOS actively participated, carrying banners and placards with powerful messages promoting eye health. The rally resonated with this year’s global theme—“Love Your Eyes”—emphasizing personal responsibility in maintaining good vision and the collective need to eliminate avoidable blindness.

Following the rally, ECOS Eye Hospital, in collaboration with the Tata Foundation, organized a large-scale community eye screening camp in the Berhampur area. This event was part of an ongoing joint initiative between ECOS and Tata Foundation, under which several similar camps have been held across Ganjam district over the past three months. The initiative reflects a shared mission to reach underserved communities and ensure that no one is left behind due to lack of access to proper eye care.

The camp witnessed enthusiastic participation from the local population, including children, working adults, and the elderly. A team of ophthalmic technicians and support staff from ECOS conducted free screenings for a range of eye conditions—refractive errors, cataracts, glaucoma, and other common visual impairments. Eligible individuals received subsidized spectacles, while those diagnosed with cataract and other surgical needs were transported to ECOS Base Hospital for free or subsidized treatment. After successful surgeries, they were safely escorted back to their villages, ensuring continuity of care and comfort for patients.
Senior staff members from ECOS also engaged the participants with educational talks on eye care practices, preventive measures, and the importance of routine eye checkups. They stressed the need to seek timely medical attention for eye-related symptoms and encouraged families to spread awareness within their communities.

The event not only provided medical support but also strengthened the hospital’s connection with the community. By blending awareness, education, and service delivery, ECOS Eye Hospital showcased its holistic approach to eye health promotion. The collaboration with Tata Foundation further exemplified the power of partnership in expanding the reach of healthcare services to marginalized groups.
